Seeing Buddha, the book, is currently in production. It will be approximately 130 pages containing 75 original color and black and white photographs, almost all of which were shot specifically for this project.
To make the final edit from the hundreds of photographs in consideration, I enlisted the skills of Olivier Picard who was a Picture Editor and then Director of Photography at US News and World Report magazine in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. I was a contract photographer with US News during these years and no one in the national news magazine field was more successful at curating sophisticated photojournalistic images for print. Olivier was also on staff at National Geographic books and edited a volume on Shanghai that I photographed for their Traveler series. He is, simply, the best photo editor I have ever worked with.
The design is by Yuko Uchikawa who has worked on many beautiful photography books over the years. The look and feel of the final project couldn’t be in better hands.
Although the book is photo-oriented, there will be some text including quotes from various Buddhist canons and well-known historical and contemporary Buddhist figures.
